Command-line tool

Valance in Terminal and on CI.

The command-line tool works on the same projects as the app: pull, diff, push, verify, upload builds and submit for review. It comes with the Valance unlock.

Download

An installer for Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 27 or later, signed and notarized by Apple.

Download the Installer
  1. Install it

Open the installer and follow the steps. Then check it works:

    valance version
  2. Give it your license

In Valance, choose Settings → Purchase → Export Command-Line License and save the file. Then install it. Keep it private: it works for anyone who has it.

    valance license install ~/Downloads/Valance\ License.jws
  3. Give it an API key

The tool doesn’t use the keys stored in the app. Set these three variables, using the key ID, the issuer ID (leave it out for an individual key) and the path to the .p8 file you downloaded from App Store Connect.

    export ASC_KEY_ID=ABC123DEFG
    export ASC_ISSUER_ID=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
    export ASC_PRIVATE_KEY=~/.appstoreconnect/AuthKey_ABC123DEFG.p8

Use it

Every command works on a .valance project, like the one the app creates. Run help to see them all.

valance pull MyApp.valance
valance diff MyApp.valance
valance push MyApp.valance
valance help

On a CI server

Store the license as a secret and pass it in VALANCE_LICENSE, either the license itself or the path to the file. verify exits with an error when App Store Connect doesn’t match the project, so a pipeline can catch a listing that drifted.

VALANCE_LICENSE="$VALANCE_LICENSE" valance verify Listing/MyApp.valance

Uninstall

Remove the tool and the installer’s record of it:

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/libexec/valance /usr/local/bin/valance
sudo pkgutil --forget com.ashleycorbion.valance.cli
